The Netherlands Institute of International Affairs Clingendael is an independent think tank and academy for international relations, based in The Hague. The Institute has three departments: Research, Academy and Corporate Staff. Within the EU and Global Affairs Research Unit, we are looking for an:

Intern EU Migration & Asylum

36 hours per week (full time)

 

The Clingendael Institute is currently looking for a highly motivated and competent intern to support the Migration Programme within the EU and Global Affairs research unit for a period of 6 months from 1 February – 1 August. The intern will mainly work on topics related to migration partnerships and nearshoring.

 

Job description

Relevant tasks are:

  • Research assistance consisting of desk-research, preparing and conducting interviews, and preparing and conducting survey research;
  • Organisational assistance for research missions, seminars and (public) events;
  • Organisational assistance for (online) (stakeholder) meetings, in particular contributing to content-preparation, logistical organisation, and writing meeting reports;
  • Project support for the research team, scouting, outreach, and marketing.

 

Qualifications and experience

We would be interested in candidates meeting the following requirements:

  • Enrolled in a relevant MA or MSc program (political science, international relations, migration studies, etc.); additional business or political economy background considered an asset;  
  • Strong interest in international cooperation on migration and EU migration and asylum governance;
  • Proven research and writing skills; comfortable with both qualitative and policy-oriented research;
  • Organisational skills;
  • Good working knowledge of English (written and spoken); proficiency in Dutch, French or Arabic is a plus;
  • Team player, but also capable of working independently on the basis of instructions;
  • Good communication skills, comfortable working and functioning in a diplomatic and professional environment;
  • Flexibility, capable of working under pressure and reaching deadlines.

Technical requirements:

  • Enrollment in an MA/MSc program;
  • EER/Switzerland nationality OR holder of a Dutch study visa;
  • The internship period is six months with the possibility of extension. Interns should be able to commit to working 36 hours a week.

 

Clingendael offers

  • A stipend of € 550,- gross per month (in case of 36 hours per week) as well as a commuting compensation.
